Terms of Service

Plain language summary
WebGuard is provided as-is, with no warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for any damages, losses, or legal consequences arising from your use of this service or reliance on its results. A passing score here does not mean your site is secure. Use results as informational guidance only.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using WebGuard ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to all terms and conditions herein, you must not use the Service.
2. Service Description
WebGuard is an automated web security scanning tool that performs passive and limited active security assessments on publicly accessible web applications. The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only.
The scan targets URLs that you submit. By submitting a URL, you confirm that you are the owner of that web property or have explicit written authorisation from the owner to perform security testing against it.
3. No Warranty — Service Provided As-Is
The Service is provided "as-is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, reliability, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- the Service will be available at any given time;
- scan results will be accurate, complete, or free of errors;
- the Service will detect all security vulnerabilities present in a scanned site;
- a site that receives a passing score is free of security vulnerabilities.
4. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WebGuard and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from:
- your use of or reliance on the Service or its results;
- any security breach, data loss, or incident affecting your systems;
- failure to detect any vulnerability or security issue;
- any action taken — or not taken — based on scan results;
- interruption or unavailability of the Service.
This limitation applies regardless of whether we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
5. No Security Guarantee
A passing score or absence of findings does not constitute a guarantee, certification, or representation that your web application is secure.
WebGuard performs unauthenticated, external, passive-first scanning limited to the checks described in the Methodology page. It does not perform penetration testing, source code review, authenticated scanning, fuzzing, exploit attempts, or any other form of comprehensive security audit. Significant vulnerabilities may exist that are not detectable by this type of automated scan.
For any production system handling sensitive user data, financial information, or personal health information, a full security audit by qualified security professionals is strongly recommended in addition to — not as a replacement for — automated tools.
6. Authorised Use Only
You may only scan web properties that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Scanning web properties without authorisation may be illegal under applicable laws including but not limited to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), the Computer Misuse Act (CMA), and equivalent legislation in your jurisdiction.
You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to scan any URL you submit. We accept no liability for any legal consequences arising from unauthorised scanning.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service:
- to scan systems you do not own or have authorisation to test;
- in any manner that violates applicable local, national, or international law;
- to attempt to overwhelm, disrupt, or interfere with the Service or any third-party system;
- to extract, scrape, or reproduce scan results at scale for commercial redistribution without permission.
We reserve the right to terminate access to the Service for any user who violates these terms.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless WebGuard and its operators from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your submission of any URL, or your violation of these Terms.
9. Scan Data
Scan results are stored to allow you to retrieve them after the scan completes. We do not sell, share, or publish individual scan results. Aggregated, anonymised statistical data may be used to improve the Service.
Do not submit URLs to systems you consider confidential or highly sensitive, as the target URL and scan results will be processed and stored by our systems.
10. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after any such modification constitutes your acceptance of the new terms. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.
11. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts.
In short
Use this service at your own risk. Only scan what you own. A pass here is not a security certificate. We are not liable for anything that happens as a result of using WebGuard.
